A study published in the journal JAMA Oncology researching the relationship between diet and lung cancer; involving about one and a half million adults in America, Europe, and Asia.
In this study, the researchers focused on two things, namely foods containing probiotics and foods containing prebiotics.
Probiotics are substances that contain various types of microorganisms such as bacteria and yeast that are beneficial to the body. One of the most famous foods with probiotics is yogurt.
While pRebiotic is a component that can support the growth of bacteria in the digestive system. Dietary fiber in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts is the main prebiotic in the daily diet.
The results of this study concluded that someone who consumed the most fiber had a 17 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer, compared to people who consumed the least fiber.
In addition, the study also stated that people who consumed the most yogurt had a 19 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer, compared to people who didn’t eat yogurt.
Other research suggests that bacteria in the gut have a role in inflammation in the lungs. Metabolites produced by intestinal bacteria can suppress inflammation in the lungs so that the risk of getting the disease can also decrease.
