Eggs are a good source of protein for the body. This one food also has a myriad of other important nutrients that are beneficial to health.
The benefits of eggs can also be felt by diabetics. According to the American Diabetes Association, consuming eggs for diabetes is a good choice, given the few carbohydrates in them.
It is important to know, diabetics should limit their daily intake of carbohydrates. This is because carbohydrates that enter the body will be broken down into sugar. If the consumption is excessive, the sufferer’s blood sugar levels can spike.
Eggs are also a good source of protein for the body. Apart from carbohydrates and fats, protein belongs to the 3 essential macronutrients. The role of protein is very important in regulating blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.

Even though it is classified as a food that is safe for consumption by diabetics, egg consumption should not be excessive.
Eggs have a high cholesterol content, one of the triggers for cardiovascular disease. In fact, diabetics are more at risk of cardiovascular disease.
So, how many eggs a day are safe for diabetics to consume? According to research conducted in 2018, eating 12 eggs per week will not have a negative impact on blood sugar or HbA1C, cholesterol, and weight.
Another study in the same year also revealed that participants who consumed eggs had better fasting blood sugar levels; without interfering with cholesterol levels in the body. This study involved participants with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes who were randomly selected.
